Sorry for the short notice, I only just got notified.
CCC will be promoting the Camden cargo bike trial scheme. There will be several different cargo bikes to have a quick spin on.
The CNJ will be there, so it is a bit of a photo opportunity.
If you can make it, please SMS/WhatsApp me on 07779 145478 and I will give you the exact location.

John. Also, my thanks. Great piece. It puts down a marker, where we want to be.

In 15 years I’d like to hope our children could play in our streets, as our neighbourhoods have a new birth of freedom. If the streets are no longer parking lots, just think of the possibilities.

Consultation + Events

John Chamberlain

Urgent Consultation (last of 2021!)
Camden are consulting on whether to convert the pop-up cycle lane on St Pancras Way to a permanent lane, or remove it. You can see the consultation documents (including planned enhancements) here (https://consultations.wearecamden.org/supporting-communities/st-pancras-way/). Cycle numbers are up by a factor of 3 since it was put in; we think it is important to keep it but there is significant opposition. So, if you haven't done so already, please take a few minutes to respond in favour.

If you're in a hurry, you can go direct to the questionnaire here. We think you can strongly agree with all the questions though we will be making some suggestions for improvements to the plans in our formal response. If you would like to make additional suggestions for us to add to our response, please go to our Cyclescape page (you will need to sign up if you haven’t already done so) or email the group by replying to this or email me direct (john@...).

Winter Wonder Ride on January 16th
Westminster Women on Wheels invite everyone to a family-friendly women's ride using protected cycle lanes and traffic-free roads. It starts at Hyde Park at 1 pm; more details at bit.ly/WonderRide. They are still looking for marshals so if you are an experienced rider and would like to help, please email Katy Rodda (katy.rodda@...) (you don't have to be female).

Camden Cyclists' Meeting
Finally, our next meeting is on the 17th. An agenda will be published nearer the time; details and joining instructions here.

Thanks, and sorry for the blizzard of information!

Regards

John Chamberlain

That is terrific.  So good to have a vision.  And things have moved so fast over the last year or two, this vision looks achievable.  I’ll share with Cycle Islington.

Please take action if you want to keep the protected tracks on Gray's Inn Road

John Chamberlain

Thank you to those who have already commented in favour of the new cycle lanes on Gray's Inn Road. There continues to be concerted opposition to the scheme so please, if you have not already done so, go to the Camden Commonplace website (see link below), scroll down, and select the green smiley face plus any relevant reasons. It would be really good if you could also 'agree' with other positive comments (you need to scroll to the bottom of the page and select View Comments).

The consultation is at

https://safetravelcamden.commonplace.is/proposals/grays-inn-road-cycle-lanes

You can add any suggestions for further improvements. A decision as to whether to keep the lanes will be made in January.

Thank you

Regards

John Chamberlain

The new tracks on Gray's Inn Road are soon due for their 18-month review. This time, instead of a full consultation Camden are relying on comments posted on their CommonPlace site, see below. This does make it quicker for us to express our support.

There seems to be a concerted effort by one or more groups to object to the scheme, so please do take 5-10 minutes to express your support:
Go to the linked page, scroll down to the 'Comment on this proposal’ form and complete it, making sure you select the green ’smiley face’. It’s ok to just use the appropriate predefined answer buttons for the rest of the form.
Once you have responded, please scroll through the responses from others  listed and ‘Agree’ with all the supporting (green) ones you can see that are consistent with your position.

Hi,

We'd have to cycle from near West Hampstead/Kilburn (just inside Camden) anyway to get to Roundwood Park. I don't think I can organise a feeder ride alone or if that would even be attended given the time of the year and weather.
Please share further!

Re: Consultation on making the Arlington Road area LTN permanent - LAST CHANCE to RESPOND

Dear all,

The deadline for replying to the Arlington Road consultation is on 5th December.

If you haven’t yet done so, please do reply now.

Dear all

A really good scheme for reducing the through motor traffic on the streets around Arlington Road was installed in September 2020. Camden is now consulting on making the scheme permanent. It would be really good if you would make the effort to reply to the consultation.  You can see the consultation details here:

The most important questions are:

No 9 which asks whether you agree (or strongly agree which I do) with making all the motor vehicle traffic restrictions permanent
and
No 10 which goes through the list of restrictions one-by-one asking for specific support

Other questions refer to adjustments:
No 11 refers to moving the Cycle Hire station to the corner of Albert street
No 12 refers to widening the footway at the Parkway junction with Arlington Road

No 13 refers to removing the right turn lane the junction where Albert Road meets Delancey Street - I THINK that we should ask for a cycle contraflow on this section of Albert Street

NO 14 asks about Bike Hangars which we should of course support

If you are in a hurry, you can go straight to the on line survey here:

Dear Angela, yes I fitted it myself. I just needed a bit of help with tightening the bolts on the handlebar fitting which holds the battery.
Do give me a call, or come over to try it if you are still local enough.

Re: e-bike conversion kits

Jean Dollimore

Angela

One advantage of doing a conversion is that you continue using a bike that you already like.

I wasn’t able to do that with my little blue Moulton (AM7) because the bike was too old and the frame might have got damaged.

So I bought a similar bike (the TSR8 green one) and had an ARCC conversion. (A front wheel motor and a small battery and light weight)

See pictures here
